Faith
Faith was 9 Years old when we learnt that she had a place at a hospital in St Louis USA for Dr Parkes to perform Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery to help her with her Cerebral Palsy Diplegia.
We had 6 months to help the family raise £45,000, with Race nights, Quizzes, Curry Nights, a Sponsored walk from Mumbles to Swansea and a 36 Hour marathon collection at Tesco plus much more. Faith flew to St Louis in the March. Before her operation Faith could not walk, only crawl or be carried but within a few days of having the procedure, she was riding a tricycle along the hospital corridors and was walking.
Faith had to endure months of painful physiotherapy
but she was soon walking to school with her friends and has grown into a fine teenager. ........
UPDATE
In August 2021 Faith is 18
Faith has just learnt she has passed her exams and is off to University.
Members of Gower Lions are so proud of Faith and wish her well for the future.
Hands 4 Alan
Soon after we completed Faiths project, we learnt through Faith of another 9 year old Alan, "The Boy with No Hands". Alan was born with a heart defect and at the age of 3 yrs had to endure heart surgery. After the surgery and during his recovery, his circulation was compromised due to an infection which resulted in Alan having his hands amputated.
This was a 3 year long project to get Alan bionic hands ...Amount raised £65,000.
Young Faith now able to walk, had an idea "Its payback time, lets do another sponsored walk from Mumbles to Castle Gardens Swansea, about 5 miles, BUT this time I am WALKING it". So one Saturday we set off with our super hero's, Faith struggled but insisted on walking every step of the way.
Later that same day Alfie Boe was in concert in Singleton Park. We had arranged a back stage meeting with Alfie who subsequently invited us to stay for the concert and spoke of our young hero during his show.
Many other events were arranged, 3 Motor cycle rideouts where clubs came from all over England and Wales and donated before enjoying a ride to Llandovery, The 2 Lions David and Dave did a 9 day sponsored trip around all Premier League football clubs collecting memorabilia and joining up with other Lions clubs on the way, collecting donations and a large teddy bear that was raffled at a later rideout.
After 4 months Alan was able to be fitted with his first hand in Edinburgh in time to start his first day at comprehensive school. There was a period of waiting for 2 years for the second one as his arm had to grow and we needed to raise more money. Eventually Alan had his second hand in time for his 13th Birthday.

Paige
When we first met Paige, she was almost two years old and just diagnosed with a terminal illness. This meant that her immune system was compromised and so she could not leave home. Paige was essentially a prisoner and the garden of the home they had just moved into was overgrown and not fit for her to be in.
We performed our own DIY SOS and arranged for it to be cleared and made safe with the support of a local business. Swansea Sound's Cash for Kids came to the rescue and helped us out with a summer house for her to have a playroom in the garden.
Paige loves Monkeys so that was the theme of the room for her along with Disney characters and a large painting of an apple tree complete with the family names on the apples.
The Project was completed on 5th August 2016
Paige and Lilly spent many happy hours playing and enjoying the garden in safety.
Monday 18th July 2022 Paige fell asleep
God Bless lovely Girl
Izzy
In 2018, we were approached and asked if "Santa" could visit a little girl called Izzy.
Izzy is tube fed, on oxygen, has no Immune system and is very vulnerable to infection.
A condition called SMARD an ultra rare degenerative
life limiting condition for which there is currently no treatment available.
It is imperative that strict measures are taken to prevent any form of contamination.
Young Izzy enjoyed her visit immensely and the gifts she had. Since then we have visited her on birthdays and at Christmas.
In 2019 we learnt that Izzy had been granted an out of hours visit to Folly Farm which was highly successful. With this in mind ,we were able to arrange a visit to the Christmas Tree Farm at Three Crosses where she was able to meet Father and Mother Christmas and see the Christmas Grotto. Before leaving she saw Santa's Reindeer in the field up close. On her way home Izzy was unusually vocal and "Santa HO HO HO" was repeated numerous times.
Because of the Covid pandemic Santa could only visit via Zoom for Christmas 2020 but Izzy enjoyed as usual. A while later we learnt about a body wrap to support Izzy's spine, the NHS support that Izzy hadbeen issued with was so uncomfortable she could not tolerate it.
This new wrap, Charley Wrap, was made in New Zealand for the same condition as Izzy and is made to measure. Our club purchased this and by mid January it had been received. The wrap was so comfortable that Izzy wears most of the day and in May her posture was noticably improving, Money well spent.
Photo's Received March 2022
Looks like the wrap is doing its job !!
